Birds of Naples Beach, FL – 2011.11.22

Birds of Naples Beach, FL

Took some time off to get used to using the 2X on the 200mm. And what better way than to head down to the beach and see how close I could get to some skittish shore birds.

A Willet with a sand flea in it’s mouth.

Willet

A Western Sandpiper runs from the oncoming wave.

A Snowy Egret stalks minnows in the foamy backwash of a wave.

One footed Willet. You can tell from this shot, but this poor guy lost one of his feet somehow.

Just SUP’n along.

Black Bellied Plover. They like to pause in mid stride (like above), and then run a short distance before repeating the dramatic pause.

Black Bellied Plover.

Western Sandpiper.

Western Sandpiper. I mainly like this for the square crop and the reflection of the bird.
